Stevia is native to Paraguay, a country that is located in the same Latitude (South) as the State of Sinaloa (North Latitude), so the weather conditions are very similar and conducive to the sowing and cultivation of this plant.
To carry out the process of adapting the Stevia plant to the new conditions, we chose the municipality of Guasave in Sinaloa, Mexico.
We planted 5.2 hectares as a test to know the development and behavior of the crop in this area and we chose the Morita II variety, as the most suitable for the sweetness and quality of the extracts obtained in our Research and Development laboratories at ID + BIOTEC ( www.idbiotec.com).
The evolution of the crop was carefully studied and analyzed, in order to obtain the best biomass production (dry leaves), obtaining a first harvest with excellent yields.
The most important thing to highlight is that in addition to achieving an excellent adaptation of the plant to the new conditions of the region, we obtained a lot of experience about the management of the crop in each stage, laying the foundations to move to phase 2 where we could plant 10 times more usable land.
This is how we started today the cultivation of 53 hectares of Stevia in the Agricultural Heart of Mexico (Guasave, Sinaloa).
Here are some photos of the results obtained in this test.
